The Tithe

Malachi 3:8-12
1.What is the difference between a tithe and an offering?
a. Tithe: A tithe is one-tenth of the annual produce of one’s land or one’s annual income. It was paid as a tax or contribution to support a church or its clergy.
b.Offering: The offering is something offered specific like a gift or contribution.

2.What had the people of God been doing?
3.Who owns the tithe?
4.What happened as a result of not giving God the entire tithe?
5.Who were the people harming by keeping the tithe?
6.What did God promise would be the results from giving the tithe and offerings?
(There would be more blessings than could be held on to)

1.Why would there be more than could be used?
2.What would God prevent from being destroyed?
3.Would it be easier to give to others if God prevents what we have from being wasted?

Matthew 23:28

1.Why should we tithe?
a.Did the religious leaders of Jesus day tithe?
b.What did Jesus say had been done wrong?
c.If we are just, merciful and faithful, do we still need to tithe?
2.Do we tithe because we want to appear righteous or out of duty or obligation?
3. Why do we tithe?
4.Do we benefit from giving to others?

Luke 6: 38

Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

2.Does the attitude with which we give matter?
3.What kind of giver does God enjoy?  Why?

5.What can we do so we can give more?
